The Symmetry Filter trend is an October 2026 TikTok game, posted as “Asymmetry vs Symmetry”, in which your face is mirrored down its middle line twice: once from the left half and once from the right half. You see two symmetrical twins of yourself, and they often look like two different people.
Key takeaways
- Your face mirrored from its left half and its right half.
- A game, not a beauty test: there is no score.
- The wave runs on a CapCut template and began on 16 October 2026.
- Try it with this how-to.
What is the symmetry filter?
One straight-on face is mirrored down its middle line, with the background mirrored too. The picture flips between the left-side version and the right-side version on the beat. Some people also search for it as the face symmetry test or the symmetrical face filter.
Where did it start?
- 2021: the Inverted filter lets people compare the face they see in the mirror with the flipped face others see, and many ask whether their face is symmetrical.
- 16 October 2026: tutorial accounts post the CapCut template “symmetrical face | 4 pics” under the caption “symmetry.”
- 17 October: a Spanish tutorial goes big, reaching about 904,000 views by 22 October.
- 22 October: a US compilation passes 800,000 views.
View counts are as reported on TikTok at the time.
Why do the twins look different?
No face is perfectly symmetrical, so each half builds a slightly different person. The full explanation is in why the twins look different.
Is it a beauty test?
No. It gives no score and does not say which side is better. Some creators post it with a kind message: everyone has an asymmetrical face, and that is normal.

FAQ
What is the symmetry filter?
