Symmetry Filter AI: Asymmetry vs Symmetry From One Selfie

See what your face looks like when one half is mirrored onto the other. Add one straight-on selfie and AI builds a short vertical clip that flips between your real face and your two mirror twins.

  • One straight-on selfie, face large and level
  • Left twin, right twin and the real face on the beat
  • A game, not a beauty test: there is no score

Reference preview

What is the symmetry filter?

A face trend where one straight-on face is mirrored down its middle line, once from the left half and once from the right half. Because no face is perfectly symmetrical, the two twins often look like two different people.

1

Post it with the caption "Asymmetry vs Symmetry" and ask which twin people prefer.

2

Send it to a friend or partner and compare twins.

3

Make a set with the people in your group chat.

4

Use it as a quick, curious clip for a creator account.

Which photo works best?

1

Use one selfie taken straight on. The filter mirrors your face down its middle line, so your head position decides the result.

2

Look straight into the camera, with the phone at eye level and your head level, not tilted or turned. A turned head gives one wide twin and one narrow twin.

3

Frame chest up, with the face large and sharp and both eyes and cheeks in view.

4

Use even light from the front, such as a window. Light from one side makes one twin dark.

5

Keep the face clear: no sunglasses and no hand on the face. Use your own photo, adults only.

About the reference

Face symmetry videos are an old TikTok genre. In 2021 the Inverted filter let people compare the face they see in the mirror with the flipped face other people see, and many asked whether their face was symmetrical.

The new wave runs on a CapCut template called "symmetrical face | 4 pics". The edit shows each face mirrored down its middle line and flips between the left and right versions under the caption "symmetry." Tutorial accounts started posting it on 16 October 2026, and a Spanish tutorial from 17 October reached about 904,000 views by 22 October.

Timeline: 2021, the Inverted filter. 16 October 2026, the first tutorial of the wave. 17 October, a Spanish tutorial goes big. 22 October, a US compilation passes 800,000 views. View counts are as reported on TikTok at the time.

What the Symmetry Filter video looks like

The trend's clip shows one straight-on face, mirrored down the middle line, with the background mirrored too. The picture flips between the left-side version and the right-side version in time with the beat.

Your video does the same with your selfie: your real face first, then the two twins flipping on the beat, and back to you at the end.

What does the symmetry filter video show?

Start: your real face, calm, looking into the lens.

Then: a hard cut to the left-side twin, built from the left half of your face and mirrored onto the right.

Then: a cut to the right-side twin, built from the right half.

Middle: fast flips between the twins on the beat.

End: back to your real face with a small smile.

Both twins come only from your own face: the same skin, freckles, hair and eye color.

Asymmetry vs symmetry: what the two twins show

No face is perfectly symmetrical. One eye sits a little higher, one eyebrow arches more, the smile pulls to one side and the hair parts on one side. Mirroring one half doubles those small differences, which is why the twins can look like different people.

It is a game, not a beauty test. The filter gives no score and does not say which side is better. Some creators post it with a kind message: everyone has an asymmetrical face, and that is normal.

What goes wrong, and how do you fix it?

The twins look almost the same as the real face: use a straight-on photo with your head level, because more natural asymmetry shows more difference.

One twin looks stretched or narrow: your head was turned, so take a new selfie facing the lens.

One twin is much darker: the light came from one side, so face a window or a soft lamp.

A seam shows down the middle: run it again, because it changes from take to take.

The twins are very close to a true mirror but not always pixel-exact, since AI draws them from your photo. If a generation fails, reserved credits are released automatically.

Which caption, sound and hashtags should you post it with?

Captions: "symmetry.", "Asymmetry vs Symmetry" or "which twin is you?".

Search terms include symmetry filter, face symmetry test and symmetrical face filter.

Frequently asked questions

What is the symmetry filter?

A TikTok trend from October 2026 that mirrors your face from its left half and from its right half so you can compare the two twins, usually posted as "Asymmetry vs Symmetry".

How do I make the symmetry filter video with AI?

Open the generator above, add one straight-on selfie, choose an available resolution and submit. No prompt is needed.

Which photo works best?

A straight-on selfie in even light, chest up, with your head level and your face clear.

Is it a face symmetry test?

No. It is a game. The clip does not score your face or say which side is better.

Why do my two twins look so different?

No face is perfectly symmetrical. Mirroring one half doubles the small differences between your left and right sides.

Is the AI result an exact mirror?

It comes very close, but AI draws each twin from your photo, so a hair part or a mole can land slightly off. Run it again for a new take.

Who can use it?

Use your own photo. Adults only: never a child, a celebrity or someone else's photo without their permission.

How much does it cost?

Check the current resolution and credit quote in the generation panel before submitting. See the pricing page for available credit packs.
